Fortnite ray-tracing available today on PC

Fishual upgrades.

You can keep your PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X pre-orders - Fortnite will switch on its next-gen ray-tracing visuals today on PC.

Reflective surfaces and water now show accurate shadows and reflected visuals, while ambient occlusion and global illumination have also been improved.

There are a number of Nvidia DLSS settings to play with to toggle various levels of ray-tracing while maintaining a high frame-rate - though you’ll still need the following system specs to make the most of it.

Minimum system requirements

Requires DirectX 12
CPU: Four cores or more
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 or higher (use updated drivers; 450.00 and higher are supported)
Windows 10 version 1903 (May 2019 Update, build number 18362 or newer)
Recommended system requirements

Requires DirectX 12
CPU: Eight cores or more
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 or higher (use updated drivers; 450.00 and higher are supported)
Windows 10 version 1903 (May 2019 Update, build number 18362 or newer)
Instructions on how to get it all working are over on the Epic Games blog.

If you were watching Sony’s PlayStation 5 briefing last night you’ll have spotted Fortnite turn up there with many of its shiny new visual settings turned on. Epic’s battle royale is due to be available for both PS5 and Xbox Series X on their respective launches.
